Documentary photography is a great way to capture important life events! There are a few trade-offs for some people though. The process doesn’t necessarily include the same “check list” of shots that people expect from something like a wedding. We wouldn't spend a lot of time on formal portraits of the wedding party or posed close-ups of the rings, for example, but I would get lots of photos of your friends and family having fun and enjoying the day, and present them in a way that really tells the whole story, even if that story includes your aunt ugly crying through the ceremony or your best man tripping over his own feet walking down the aisle. Also, because the documentary process doesn’t include all of the retouching, additional lighting equipment, and labor intensive post production work that traditional event photography usually includes, documentary photography is much more affordable than an event specific photographer would be.
